When you’re looking to start a new website, you need to know what you want to write about.

You need to have a clear picture of who your targeted audience is. When I talk to other marketers the discussion of monetization often comes up.

How should I monetize my website?

One way of monetization that often comes to mind is the Amazon Affiliate program. The reason is because it’s very easy to use and Amazon offers a huge variety of products to be promoted. Besides Amazon does a phenomenal job at cross promoting. It is also a highly trusted brand and a lot of people turn to Amazon as their supplier when it comes to shopping.

What you will learn

  1. What niche to get into
  2. How to find a product to promote
  3. The less-technique

What Niche to Get Into

I usually like to think in terms of “path of least resistance”. And by that applied to niche research I mean to not overthink the whole process of digging out your own niche.

You need to be smart here. You can’t just pick anything and hope for the best. Hope marketing gets you nowhere. But you also have to be bold enough to pick something and trust in yourself and your research that this will work.

Most ideas and angles never work from day one, you have to grind it for a while until it becomes profitable and you see the results of your work.

It is much like watching a tree grow — It takes a lot of time and investment but once it grows you can be rest assured that it will provide shadow for you when you need it. If you don’t let your tree die, it will provide an even larger shadow as the year goes by.

So, first of all, you want to find a niche.

Here is how you do it:

Go to Google and search for “words that end with less” and you can click around to see what you find.

I’ve already did this for you so you can start by following this link, and it will take you to a list of words that end with “less”.

Now that you have your “less”-word you have the first idea for a niche. Bear with me, it will all be very clear soon.

The “less”-word I picked is stainless.

What Product to Promote

Here comes the fun part.

Now you head over to Ubersuggest and type in your less word. This is where you will find what product you want to research and build your amazon affiliate website around.

A good thing with using Ubersuggest is that it reveals search terms that are from the Google auto-complete, which also means that these are keywords that you know people have searched for in the past.

You will, of course, need to look up the keyword search volume for each keyword but as a starter it will be good to know they are not just made up.

As I type in stainless into Ubersuggest I then found the keyword stainless electric stove. I expand it in Ubersuggest by clicking the word and I got the following list of keywords:

  • amana stainless steel electric stove
  •  24 stainless electric stove
  •  24 inch stainless electric stove
  •  can you use stainless steel on electric stove
  •  electric stainless steel stove tops
  •  cheap stainless steel electric stove
  •  frigidaire stainless steel electric stove
  •  ge stainless steel electric stove
  •  ge stainless steel stove electric
  •  kenmore stainless electric stove
  •  lg stainless steel electric stove
  •  lg stainless electric stove
  •  stainless electric stove top
  •  stainless electric stove standard coils
  •  stainless electric stoves
  •  stainless electric stove
  •  stainless electric stoves reviews 2014
  •  stainless steel electric stove
  •  stainless steel electric stove burner covers
  •  stainless steel electric stove tops
  •  used stainless steel electric stove
  •  white and stainless electric stove
  •  whirlpool stainless electric stove

I can expand on this further, but as you can tell from the first glance there are a lot of great ideas for an Amazon affiliate website here. First you can divide your reviews into different brands like Whirlpool, LG, GE, Samsung etc. Then you can do another section of colors, sizes etc.

A complete amazon niche website for stainless electric stove.

The Less-Technique

The next thing you would have to do in order to complete the less-technique is to research your main keywords. I do this by jumping into my Long Tail Pro software and research the keyword from there.

stainless steel keyword

Since stainless and the electric stove was just the first best keyword I picked, I didn’t really expect it to be a golden nugget (usually you have to look for a while before you find one you really like).

Let’s analyze this keyword together quickly, look at the above image as reference and follow along:

  • Exact Keyword match is looking good.
  • PageRank is decent, sears.com has a PR of 4, which is above the rule of three I use. But a lot of zeroes, which is good.
  • A lot of e-commerce stores are ranking in the top 10, which means that this keyword will be very hard to rank in that position — I’d drop it right here.
  • Site age is very high. Not a good sign, we are looking for less than 7 years in the top.
  • Page Authority is quite high, we want to find a multiple set of sites with PA less than 30.
  • Juice Links are great, very low to zero across all sites.
  • CPC is about $2. which is great if we wanted to turn this into an Adsense site. It also shows that there’s money to be made here.

But overall, for this particular keyword I would not venture further. It has no buying intent into the exact keyword, and we would have to do more research to find out about this. In addition to that there are a lot of pages ranking that comes from e-commerce sites, very hard to outrank since Google tend to favor this type of pages.
