It’s time for a real world live testing of a product. A lot of blogs and marketers just recommend products. Products they probably has never tried themselves. Now, here is a live test. This is the eBook Blueprint review.
I stumbled upon The ebook Blueprint that is sold by Wesley Atkins. It is targeted towards people who want to make money from Kindle Publishing and the Kindle Store on Amazon. I thought this would be a good product to live test because Kindle is a platform that is growing by the minute and claimed to be one of the “easiest way to make money online”.
So, I will approach this as a complete newbie so you can replicate and know if this is something for you. If you want to go straight to the course and follow along, you find it here.
Kindle Is Growing By The Minute
Yes. I know. But so are many other markets as well, they are constantly growing. In fact, I wrote an article about the consolidation on Amazon. I think I predicted it quite well. Since Kindle publishing has such an extremely low barrier to entry, eBooks are flooding the market. And not just any books, but many times crap.
But then Amazon changed their royalty payouts to encourage page turners. Meaning they wanted more quality books that actually provided quality. This simply means that authors who are enrolled in the Kindle Select will get paid by numbers of pages read instead being paid per book borrowed, as before.
And on the topic of quality, it may seem very strange that I am going to test a product that claims to churn out a book in just 7 days. But I am going to stay true to my struggle that whatever I produce should be of high quality and provide a real life value.
Competition And Market Saturation
Let’s just address a common struggle that most of us face. And something that I believe limits us. This may very well be one of the biggest limiting beliefs for anyone trying to enter a market, a new niche or to start a business.
I’ve heard this million of times.
“The market is saturated”
“There is too much competition.”
“Competition is fierce.”
I’m not saying that competition is something to be taken lightly. Because competition is something very real. However, competition is a good thing. It proves that there is a healthy market. Competition will help you determine what angle you want to take, what problems are yet unsolved and how you can take a piece of the pie.
If there is no competition it tells you one of two things. Either the market is none existing, meaning you have an innovation and you are faced with the challenge of creating your own market (can be very rewarding, however). Or it tells you that there simply is no demand for products in this market.
Keep an abundant mindset. Do not let yourself be limited by this scarcity thinking. There is room in any market. No market is saturated, you just have to find your own angle, your own door of entry.
Thinking that you cannot enter a market because of competition is just an excuse to not take action.

Video 5: The first draft
This is where you start the actual writing. It becomes easier after doing the steps laid out before and you should have no problem getting started. He discuss strategies for you to get this done in a single day, while avoiding writers block & procrastination.
Video 6: Intro and Conclusion
It is now time for a break from the main content. Let the meat rest. This is all about how to construct your introduction, conclusion and Amazon description for your eBook. Actually quite useful.
Video 7: Finalizing
In this final video he talk about the use of the three P’s when polishing up your book to make your final draft, which are Pad, Polish & Proofread.

Mindset is very important. There is a 13-minute video that combats limiting beliefs and procrastination. It talks about writer’s block and how to manage your time to be able to get through the book done within the 7-day period that the course claim to complete.
I mean a mindset lecture is always nice, and we do need to be reminded of keeping an abundant mindset. But I think that much of the information in this lecture is somewhat rehashed and information that you can find from your first Google search. Otherwise, I really recommend you to go visit Quora, there are loads of great answers to fix procrastination.
The Mindset lecture is a nice touch, but not a game changer for this specific product.

First out is to find a niche to serve. The eBook Blueprint is telling me to find out what’s already selling and then tap into that market. Not trying to invent the wheel and follow what others are already doing.
I think this is sound advice. I mean this is a Kindle book we are talking about, not a dissertation leading to a graduation.
I am told to keep my research to Amazon alone and don’t bother too much with search volumes. Only to keep my research to best seller categories.
This also make sense, because people go to Amazon to buy. That means they want to spend money. If this would be an info product it would be a little different. In that case people may be going to Google to find the information.
I found that there is a rule of thumb (be cautious with these) that books below a sales rank of 20,000 are selling, so it’s a good niche to enter.
After a bit of my own research, I also found out that magazines.com and old-fashioned bookstores (surprise!) are both good sources of inspiration.
Spending some time at magazines.com will make you come up with more ideas if you get paralyzed by Amazon. Magazines have to sell to make money, or they go bankrupt. If there is a book here, it makes money.
BUT I’m going to follow the course and stick with Amazon for now.
Here is what to do:
- Go to Kindle eBooks
- Go to a category that interests you.
- And look at the first 20 best sellers (paid). Make sure that lot of the books on the first page 20 paid best sellers are below 30,000 in sales rank.
- Open a few books in a new tab (I’m going to open all of them to be sure)
- Check the books estimated sales.
- Look for categories with a lot of books that has 0.99 to 2.99 in price
- Look at the different titles and try to understand what topic the top 20 are talking about, be specific.
- Copy all titles and put them in a word document
- Then paste the whole document into wordle, which generates a word cloud for you, you will instantly see what words are popular and what topics you should niche down into.
Here is how I did:
I chose to venture into Category Business & Money > Starting a Business. I choose this because it is a topic that resonates with me and something I have done myself. Real life experience is great because then I can add in my personal anecdotes into the book. In addition, I like to write about this topic, which should help a lot.
The 20th book on the first page has a best seller rank of 28,069 by the time I am writing this. So below 30k – Awesome.
My theme actually has a some odd prices and a few high prices. You want to stay away from these categories told by the course. But after 30 minutes of looking around, I’d rather write about something that I really enjoy than something that is a mystery to me. Time will tell if this is my fall.
I used the estimated sales sheet that comes with this course to determine sales. When I estimate the sales and make an average of all the books in the top 20, I get 482. If I remove the outliers and then redo the calculations, I get an estimate of 290.
You can also use a Kindle Calculator to find out the estimated sales (again, take caution with software that automates stuff). I researched the Kindle Calculator and found out from others that it is somewhat misguiding. So, don’t trust in it too much, it’s more of an estimate than anything.
I then copied all the titles and pasted them into Wordle and this is what I got:
In this course, Wesley Atkins also does a small promotion for his automation software called Kindle Spy v4. It is a great product, but I want to do this manually. This live test must be done solely with the course at hand, otherwise it would skew the results.
So, this may seem like a lot of work, but what I did was to copy and paste in all the titles in an excel spreadsheet. After that was done I started writing down all the words I thought were useful and counted the frequency of those words.
I came up with these:
After some thinking I settled on a few possible titles or targets:

Understand Your Market
The next part of Day 1 is to understand the market and what they are looking for.
Here it is all about doing research for your book to get a result that is solving a real problem people have.
So what I will be looking for are problems people face when they are looking to start a business. This does not mean that I MUST write a set-by-step guide to creating a business online. If we happen to find out that time management is the biggest issue, that’s what we will write about.
In large, The eBook Blueprint is giving you the outline.
- Figure out the who, what and why
- Who is your audience?
- What are they looking to solve?
- Why do they want to solve this specific problem?
- Find the problem of these graphics
- Understand why they want to solve their problem
- Ultimately solve their problem by focusing on one solution in a way they want
Here is how I did:
I started by researching the basic demographics on Facebook, using their audience insight tool. Very useful. If you are unsure on how to do this, you can watch the video below and it will walk you through some of the basics.
After I compiled all the data into an excel spreadsheet I turned to the next task. Which is to find out what problems they specifically want to solve.
By doing searches on several platforms and social media I can find what their biggest issues are and then tailor my book to those problems.
Here is how I found the problem of my niche:
First do a small keyword research. Since this is all based on Amazon, and there is no keyword research teaching within The eBook Blueprint, I just used the Amazon search bar. I typed in my category “starting a business” to see what relevant keywords that came up:
- Starting a business
- Starting a business with little money
- Starting a business guide
- How to start a business
I’ll start with these and see what gives.
Now head over to the following places and type in your keywords: Quora, Yahoo Answers, Metafilter, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon top 10 best seller REVIEWS. I also went to Growth Hacker and Inbound.
I also did a Google search to find niche forums. “forum:how to start a business”.
After looking through a lot of the content that I researched, it is clear that most people struggle with procrastination, their mindset and many are asking for a step-by-step guide. In addition, many are asking about technicalities before they even have sold their first product.
My own strength is in mindset, sales, and focus. So I will address those with personal experiences. Then I can add in a step-by-step guide that will take the reader by the hand and move them from point A to Z. All whilst spending very little money on this.
I then also looked at the top 10 books in my chosen category to determine what people said in the reviews. Both positive and negative feedback.
Then comes the reason why. Why these people are looking for this solution. Well they want something to happen in their lives. To what it seems, a lot of them are trying to make their own path into starting a business. The common business training is quite expensive and so they are looking for a cheaper alternative (kindle books).
I read on forums, in reviews and in comments that a lot of them have families (as I already found out) and they want to support them through various income streams. Then there is a segment of people who are looking for passive income and who does not want to do the work necessary or put in any effort. Well, this is not a best seller for them, sorry.
A couple of emotions that were present are:
- Fear of failure
- Looking for freedom
- Time management
And these are all interlinked in different ways.
Empathize With Your Readers
Next in line is to find out stuff that will strengthen the book and help me empathize with the reader. Meaning that I need to get to the point and support my claims or the information in the book with actual data and reference. I’m thinking:
- A recurring theme throughout each chapter
Then I also want to instill some anticipation in the book. This will be done through future referencing. For example, I can say in the first chapters something like “xyz will be looked at in more depth in chapter C”. Then people will know that something will come later and they keep reading — i.e. a page turner.
A Killer Table of Content
When I listen to Wesley Atkins course he says that it is important to create an outstanding TOC. And I agree, but the course does not really say whether I should do it now, or later. And as he hasn’t told me or taught this yet, I wait.
He does, however, gives two final pieces of advice:
- Create a FAQ at the end of the book
- Address questions throughout the book
- Under-Promise and Over-Deliver
- Offer extra bonuses if possible
To be honest, there is a lot of great information and teaching in this course, I just don’t know how it all will be done in 7 days. But hey, I got 6 more to go, let’s not kill the beast just yet.
Day 2: Organizing Your Book
In this video we take a look at how to organize your book correctly to ensure it resonates with what your audience is looking for in terms of content and their expectations.
This day starts off a little unusual. Atkins is asking you take some time of from the computer and just create a braindump. Anything that may come to mind from your own experience, knowledge and the research from Day 1.
The course is recommending to use the method of alphabetizing, which means that you write down all ideas you can think of that starts with the letter A… then move on to B, etc.
This idea in itself is not really bad. And since the whole idea of this review is to complete the course, well, let’s do it.
I cannot say that I did take a full day off for this. But I did actually write a lot of ideas. I didn’t write a lot per se. Meaning, I could have written more text, rather I just draw a lot of bubbles, lines, and keynotes. After all, I think this will help me a lot.
But this day is also dedicated to complete a full outline for the book to come.
The outline has to bee thoroughly created so it will turn into an “oh, so simple”-experience when writing the first draft. At least if we ought to believe Atkins.
My mind map was created using Free Mind, which is a free mind mapping software.
Creating the TOC
Next up is creating a table of content that is really good looking. And then I don’t mean by design, but it has to establish a sense of “I need this info!” from the reader. I believe, and Atkins says this as well in his course, that it has to convey benefits.
What I am going to do is to export the mind map into word (yes he shows you how to do this, very useful). This is a huge time saver and it will eliminate the writer’s block completely. Given that you have done an extensive mind map.
But when Atkins showed me his method, I felt this alone was worth the price of the course. Maybe I am just a novice writer, but this was some meat.
Focused Books That Solve ONE Problem with ONE Solution.
Write a focused book that is giving people a solution quickly. Nobody is looking to read 300 pages of your personal story and how you manage to finally sell your old jacket. I mean, come on. As much as it is important to write a good book, it is equally important not to waste your readers time. Get to the point.
Atkins has a solid system for building up the book and how you can write fast. But let me just give you the outline so you know what we are up against here:
Craft a title for the book using the top 10 best sellers (This is already done, but I think I’ll revise it)
Craft a benefit driven and logical TOC. Look at the top 5 best selling books in your category, see how they did it:
- The Lean Startup
- How to Make $1,000 Per Day Clear Profit
- The Hard Thing About Hard Things
- If You Really Want to Change the World
Now what I want is to create a TOC that has about 7-12 chapters and then 3-4 sub topics. In which I make 3-4 statements for each sub.
My first draft of a TOC is finished, and this is what I made:
Day 3 – 5: Writing Your FIRST Draft
Today is when we’re going to write your FIRST draft. Here we discuss strategies for you to get this done in a single day, while avoiding writers block & procrastination.
Here comes the blast!
This is a 4:37-minute video that gives out a few tips and a kick in the butt to get yourself in the chair and write. Atkins says that if you’ve done all your research up to this point it will be easier.
I agree. Looking at my TOC and the whole outline it feels really quick. With the exact topics, it makes this much simpler.
I don’t think that I will use the Pomodoro Technique, I can get my writing done regardless of this tool. But it is a great way if you are struggling with procrastination.
Here are a few tips:
- Don’t edit your work as you write.
- Don’t correct spelling or grammatical errors.
- Start with the easiest topics to write about.
- Just do it.
Day 6: Your Intro & Conclusion
Here we’re taking a break from the main content of your book and we’re going to talk about how to construct your introduction, conclusion and Amazon description for your eBook.
I finally have my first draft written and I am ready to take on the next lecture in this course. The writing was quite easy and it didn’t take as much time as I thought it would.
The book will probably not be the best work, but considering it is written in 7 days I think it is better than the average.
The introduction has to be written like a small sales letter. A short and punchy text with a lot of benefits for the reader.
Basically, what you want to follow is the quote from the movie 7 pounds:
Three steps. First, tell them what you’re gonna tell them. Step two, you tell them. Step three, tell them what you told them.
What does this mean?
It means that you want to tell them about the benefits of your book in the introduction. Then in the actual book you give them the benefits. And in the conclusion you wrap up the benefits. More or less.
Make your conclusion inspiring, make a small recap of the main points of your book and give them advice on what’s the next step.
There should be something that makes them take action on the book.
Lastly, you want to write your description. Atkins means that it is important to follow the outline he already has laid out, which is to use numbers in the headline.
Then you want to write the description like another sales page basically. I mean, call out to your audience. This may seem like fluff, but it really isn’t. What you want to this three things:
- Write a compelling and interesting headline.
- Have a subheadline with something that your audience wants.
- Reassure them that their time is not wasted, should they pick up the book.
- A short paragraph about “this is what you get”
- Add about 7 bullets with benefits
- Summarize it
- Close with a CTA like: “scroll up and click add to cart to secure your copy now!”
There is nothing new here, in terms of copy. This is normally how to write your copy. I’m thinking something like this for description:
“Discover how to start a business that makes $1,000k per month. You can literally set this up in 1 week. You are guaranteed to have your business ready to make money once you finish this book.
Now you can start your own business with almost zero budget. This book has cut out the fluff and instead provides you with a step-by-step guide to follow. If you really want to speed things up you can just follow the action lists that follows with each chapter.
Inside You’ll discover:
=> How to start your own business that can be scaled and automated for long-term passive income
=> How to take the shortest road to your own web asset that can be run indefinitely or sold for a lump sum
=>A step-by-step actionable guide to follow that will take you from A to Z without the headache of trying to figure it out yourself
=> The effective business guide to starting a business and make money online faster than everybody else
=>Actionable checklists that will shortcut your progress and making your start track as short as possible.
=> The Precise method to follow on how to set up all settings you want to do.
=> How and more importantly, what to write in your sales copy to attract prospects and how to make sales 24/7 with an ongoing sales funnel
=> How to set up your business for an automated stream of incoming traffic that is targeted and responsive
=> How set up your marketing campaign once and letting it run for as long as you like. Removing time-consuming tasks.

Stop Wasting your time
I know you value your time, and I do too. That’s why this book has cut out all the nonsense and stuff you don’t need. Once your business is up and running, you can go back and fine tune it.
This book is all about taking action and getting things rolling. Get your business off the ground and start building your own web asset that can turn into either a nice extra income or totally change your life. It all comes down to what you want.
Stop chasing shiny objects. This is a step-by-step guide with action lists to follow. All is done for you and you can just start building right away.

That’s it for this video lecture.
To sum up it talks about your introcudtion, conclusion and your descrioption. And you have to give it to Wesley, he has some nice methods to do this. Easy and fast. I am not convinced with all his methods but this one is actually really good.
Day 7: Polish Up Your Final Draft
In this final video we talk about the use of the three P’s when polishing up your book to make your final draft, which are Pad, Polish & Proofread.
This section is about the three P’s. Thats Pad, Polish and Proofread.
Pad means to make sure that all points in the book is understandable.
The polish is about to doing the final cosmetic touches to the book, like titles, headings, subtitles and so forth. Just go over it and make sure it is nicely tied together.
Lastly, proofread. As the advice from Atkins, don’t do this yourself. Have a professional look at this and make it correct. I mean, I agree. Even if you’re an expert writer we all need a second opinion on our stuff to make sure that it holds a bare minimum quality. And let’s face it, you are not your best critique.
Then he throws in, but does not teach, about to add an author page, legal page and title page in the book. He tells very little on how to do this but just makes it a recommended thing to do.
I feel that this last part is a little stressed. There could have been more meat to this lecture and he could give a better outline to how it should be done. Yet, he puts the idea to do it into my mind, which is enough for me to get going with it.
The real advantage here is that in this course there is a bonus included. This is an eBook template that one can use to model how Atkins does his ebooks. And since this is a follow-all-steps-review, I am going to use this template. It comes included in the price of the course, which is nice.
Wrap Up & Final Thoughts

If you want to see monetary results on your efforts online quickly, then Kindle Publishing is a very fast way to go down. I don’t think that Kindle is the way to make high 5 figures, 6 figures, or above. But Kindle can be a great way to build up some initial capital to increase your budget and then zoom in on more sustainable projects.
